Former Idaho State star point guard Ethan Telfair has signed a tryout contract with the Macau Black Bears — a professional basketball team in China. The team's Twitter account announced the deal Tuesday. Macau is Telfair's first professional team.

Telfair earned first-team all-Big Sky Conference honors and was named the league's newcomer of the year following the 2015-16 season — his first at ISU — when he led the conference with 5.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game to go with 20.2 points a night. Telfair is among ISU's career leaders in scoring, assists, steals and free-throw percentage despite playing just two seasons with the Bengals.

Telfair is the cousin of former NBA star Stephon Marbury, who went on to be a six-time Chinese Basketball Association all-star. Marbury retired in February at age 40 after playing nine seasons in the CBA.

The Black Bears are Macau's first-ever professional basketball team after relocating from Foshan, Guangdong. The team had the best record in the ASEAN Basketball League last season at 15-5 and boasts last season's Heritage Import MVP (Mikh McKinney) and World Import MVP (Anthony Tucker). McKinney was the Big Sky MVP following the 2014-15 season at Sacramento State, and Tucker played two seasons at the University of Iowa.
