ABERDEEN 61, NORTH FREMONT 54

Aberdeen’s Makenna Schritter scored 27 points to lead the Tigers to a 61-54 win over North Fremont on Saturday at home.

Schritter found success with drives to the hoop and pull-up jumpers.

“Makenna is a phenomenal athlete. She’s a good ball handler. She’s just a scorer,” said Aberdeen coach Ryan Whalen. “She just played really tough. She competes so hard.”

Tasha Pocock tallied 14 points, while Baylee Whalen added 10.

Aberdeen (1-0) hosts Rockland on Wednesday.

HILLCREST 75, BLACKFOOT 30

Hillcrest scored 50 first-half points and routed Blackfoot 75-30 Saturday at home.

The Broncos were held to three points in the first quarter and made 10 shots from the field for the game.

Allie Cannon led Blackfoot in scoring with seven points. Hillcrest’s Lindsay Cook scored a game-high 21.

Blackfoot (1-1) hosts Madison on Friday.

SUGAR-SALEM 54, MARSH VALLEY 36

Marsh Valley fell in its season opener to Sugar-Salem 54-36 Saturday at home.

The Eagles were outscored every quarter of the matchup. The Diggers succeeded by slicing through Marsh Valley’s 2-3 zone.

“It was first-game jitters. The kids played hard,” said Eagles coach Kyle McQuivey. “That second half we couldn’t buy a basket.”

McKenzie Gunter led Marsh Valley with 14 points.

The Eagles (0-1) play Thursday at Sugar-Salem.

SHELLEY 54, FIRTH 39

Shelley outscored Firth 15-0 in the first quarter on its way to a 54-39 victory Saturday at home.

Russets coach Trevor Elordi said the opening quarter set the tone for the game.

“We played a complete game tonight,” Elordi said. “Everyone was moving. Everyone was communicating on defense.”

Kira Marlow scored 18 points, while Hannah Hansen added 12 for Shelley (1-1), which hosts Snake River on Tuesday.

KIMBERLY 61, AMERICAN FALLS 16

American Falls fell behind 27-2 in the first half before losing 61-16 to Kimberly on Saturday at home.

The Beavers could not mount an offensive attack because of turnovers. Plus, the Bulldogs’ length caused issues.

“They’re a good basketball team” said American Falls coach Tim Wilson of Kimberly. “We put them on the line pretty early, so they had a lot of free throws.”

Madie Wagoner was American Falls’ top scorer with six points.

The Beavers (0-2) travel Tuesday to Soda Springs.

WEST SIDE 49, GRACE 30

West Side downed a pesky Grace team 49-30 Saturday at home.

The Pirates used a 20-point second quarter and an 18-point fourth quarter to pull off the victory against the Grizzlies.

“They’re a tough team,” said West Side coach Kelli Hobson. “They’re a very physical team and we just kept pushing down the floor. They just wore down.”

Abbie Cook and Abbie Povey had nine points apiece to lead their team in scoring. Povey tallied seven of her points on free throws, an area West Side found success in the matchup.

West Side (2-0) hosts Firth on Wednesday.
