Every year for the last 20 years I’ve done a Christmas List for the outdoorsman article. If your giftee (is that even a word?) is new to the outdoor world or you are and don’t know what to buy the new love in your life don’t panic. Outdoorsmen love their gear and gizmos. And manufacturers crank out thousands of new items each year to accommodate those cravings.

I don’t want this to be a Dr. Phil article but have you ever set down and thought about why you enjoy getting out hunting, fishing, backpacking and mushroom hunting? There’s something rewarding about getting outdoors, living off the land and feeding your family. But it’s also a good excuse to get out and enjoy God’s creation.

My first two columns on the owls of Idaho covered a lot of the basic attributes of owls as a group. Over the next few columns, I want to look more closely at each of our fourteen species. Our owls differ in many ways, so there are a number of angles to take to figure out which species to address first, which second, and so on.
