ABC has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s Federal Communications Commission, alleging violation of its First Amendment rights. Tuesday's lawsuit was a sharp escalation of the network's battle against what it sees as the administration's efforts to police its content. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has defended his agency’s actions against ABC, saying broadcasters have a duty to “operate in the public interest.”  The FCC launched a review in April of eight ABC-owned broadcast licenses years before they expire. The order came after a joke by ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel infuriated President Donald Trump.

Madonna leads the 2026 MTV Video Music Award nominations. The network announced the nominations Tuesday. The pop icon has 19 competitive MTV VMA wins to her name. She also won the coveted Video Vanguard Award in 1986. She was the first solo female artist to win it. She is up for 11 awards at this year’s ceremony. Madonna is followed by Taylor Swift's nine nominations. Swift is one win away from becoming the most-awarded artist in VMA history. The 2026 show will broadcast live on CBS on Sept. 27 from the Peacock Theater Los Angeles. It will also simulcast on MTV and be available to stream on Paramount+.

The top editor of Forbes has left his job after reportedly being fired for accepting $6 million from the founder of a firm that works with the magazine. The New York Times reported this week that the payment came from RJ Shook, whose company, Shook Research, has collaborated with Forbes since 2016. An internal email confirmed that chief content officer Randall Lane no longer worked for the company. Lane, who had been with Forbes for nearly 16 years, admitted he made a mistake by not disclosing the payment. The incident raises questions about ethics and trust in journalism.

Authorities have released an early ransom note in the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie in hopes that someone will recognize the writing style. A second note that was also released Friday said Guthrie died shortly after she was kidnapped and “is buried in nature now.” Both notes initially were sent to a Tucson television station days after the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie went missing from her home outside Tucson on Feb. 1. Authorities have not said whether Nancy Guthrie is still alive. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said “we believe these distinctive linguistic characteristics may be recognizable to someone who knows or has interacted with the notes’ writer.”
