Edgar Grospiron has left the presidency of the 2030 Winter Olympics organizing committee. His decision to step down is the latest setback for organizers of the French Alps Olympics. A replacement was not immediately named. The former moguls Olympic champion had been appointed last year. That was after French biathlon star Martin Fourcade withdrew his candidacy despite being seen as the front-runner for the job. Instability continued under Grospiron’s leadership at the helm of an Olympic hosting project that started behind schedule when conceived in 2023.

Olympic figure skating champion Alysa Liu is taking the season off after her triumph in Milan. The 21-year-old from California made history in February by becoming the first American woman since 2002 to win gold at the Winter Games. She also became the first women's skater to win two golds in the same Olympics, helping the U.S. defend its title in the team event. Liu announced her break on Instagram late Tuesday, saying she wants to challenge herself and evolve her artistry. It's quite common for skaters to take a season off after the Olympics. Liu was scheduled to compete at Skate America in November.
