SHELLEY INVITE

Highland’s Dawson Moon won the Shelley Invite’s boys crown Monday at Idaho Falls Country Club.

The Rams golfer carded a 78 to finish first. As a team, the Rams scored a 352 to place second behind first-place Madison, which scored a 341. Moon’s teammate Garrett Ulrich carded an 81.

“He played really solid,” Highland coach Tyler Pearson said of Moon. “Fun to see all his hard work start paying off.”

Century finished fourth with a 385, led by Ethan Burke’s 93 and Kade Anderson’s 97. Blackfoot’s 405 led them to a ninth-place mark. Dylan Peterson guided the Broncos with an 89. Shelley’s Will Hardee carded a 98.

The Highland girls notched a 417 to finish third. Century and Shelley each carded a 429 to finish tied for fourth. Thunder Ridge took first with a 401. Shelley’s Nicole Nelson won the girls title with an 81.

The Rams’ Brooke McMinn carded a 97 to lead the District 5 girls at the event. Teammate Shayla Sutterfield and Century’s Sofia Lifpiello each finished with a 99. Blackfoot’s Riley Lyon carded a 127.

Pocatello split Monday’s doubleheader at Minico, losing 13-9 in game one before winning 9-6 in game two.

In the opener, Minico scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 13-9 advantage. The Indians went down in order in the final frame. Maddi Palmer had two hits and two RBIs in the loss.

The Indians tallied 16 hits in game two, including a game-high three apiece from Kylie Dubbe and Palmer. Lexi Garza added two doubles.

“We didn’t do enough to win in game one,” Pocatello coach Josh Naylor said. “It got away from us. Second game, we played much better defensively.”

Pocatello (8-4-1, 7-1 4A District 4-5) hosts Canyon Ridge on Friday at OK Ward Park.

CENTURY 8, WOOD RIVER 7 (8)

WOOD RIVER 12, CENTURY 9

Century split its home doubleheader Monday against Wood River, winning 8-7 in eight innings before losing 12-9.

In game one, Aramy Glaser had a walk-off double in the bottom of the eight, scoring Natiaya Vongmany. Glaser had four hits at the plate and struck out 15 in the circle, earning the win.

Glaser had three doubles and three RBIs in game two. Teammate Isabella Smith added four RBIs.

“Aramy had a day for the ages,” Century coach Bruce Givens said.

Century (2-5, 2-4 4A District 4-5) plays a doubleheader Friday at Jerome.

BURLEY 10, PRESTON 9

BURLEY 11, PRESTON 6

Preston dropped Monday’s doubleheader at Burley, losing 10-9 and 11-6.

Sayge Keller finished the series with six hits, including two doubles. Teammate Megan Johnson had five combined hits.

“Was really proud of how the girls hung in and fought to the last play,” Preston coach Larry Morrison said.

Preston (1-8, 0-6 4A District 4-5) hosts Wood River on Friday.

Pocatello was swept in its doubleheader Monday at Minico, losing 12-8 and 4-2.

Minico scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth in game one to take a 10-6 advantage. Poky rallied with two runs in the seventh but came up short. Payton Cleaves had three RBIs in the loss.

The Indians did not have enough firepower in game two as Minico scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage. Nick McAdam had both of Poky’s RBIs.

Pocatello (7-6-1, 5-3 4A District 4-5) hosts Canyon Ridge on Friday at Halliwell Park.

CENTURY 4, WOOD RIVER 3

WOOD RIVER 13, CENTURY 12

Century split its doubleheader Monday at Wood River, winning 4-3 and losing 13-12.

In game one, Century scored four runs in the first inning and held off Wood River. The Diamondbacks’ Skyler Warner allowed five hits and one earned run in seven innings on the mound.

The Diamondbacks’ comeback came up short in game two. Century scored two runs in the top of the seventh but left the game-tying run stranded at third base. Deakon Blackhawk had three RBIs for Century (3-9, 3-5 4A District 4-5), which plays Friday at Jerome.

“We just didn’t make enough plays in game two,” Century coach Duane Rawlings said.

MALAD 6, DECLO 1

Malad beat Declo 6-1 on Monday at home behind strong pitching.

Grady Combs pitched six innings of two-hit ball for the Dragons. He allowed no earned runs and struck out eight batters. Teammate Stetson Clark had two hits and two RBIs at the plate.

No information was available on game two of the doubleheader.

Malad plays Thursday at the Glenns Ferry tournament.
