Climate Lead Water Enforcement

Thousands of water systems nationwide still have not accounted for potentially dangerous lead pipes supplying homes and businesses with drinking water. The Environmental Protection Agency under President Donald Trump has issued more than 1,000 citations to water utilities, schools and housing developments around the country for failing to submit these lists, which are key to directing where the outdated pipes need to be replaced and calculating how much money that will cost. An Associated Press analysis of government data shows that roughly 6,300 water systems nationwide have yet to submit an inventory.
