Emergency responders rushed to rescue people inside a burning building along Airport Road on Wednesday.

“Officers arrived on scene and determined someone was still inside,” reported the Rexburg Police on their Facebook page. “They forced entry through a window and helped the person evacuate the building.”

Following an investigation, officers arrested one person for arson and battery.

“The suspect was taken into custody and transported to jail,” stated police.

Facebook lit up with residents thanking first responders for quickly rushing to the scene.

“Wow! Great work by officers to save the individual in the building and (to) arrest whoever set it on fire,” one person wrote.

Others wrote that first responders “are legends” while one woman posted “risking your lives to save others!”

Another woman expressed gratitude for officers arresting an alleged arsonist.

“Arson? One of the worst charges to get,” she posted. “Thankfully, you got him off the streets.”

The fire remains under investigation.
