A father and son from Burley were sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a drug trafficking conspiracy.

According to prosecutors, Sergio Chavez-Verduzco, 42, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison, while Sergio Chavez-Macias, 20, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered both men to serve five years of supervised release and to forfeit $420,000 in drug proceeds.

Last June, the defendants were found guilty by a federal jury after a five-day trial.

Prosecutors said evidence presented in court showed that in 2015 and early 2016, Chavez-Verduzco and Chavez-Macias supplied multiple large-scale methamphetamine traffickers in the Treasure Valley region.

The evidence also showed that the defendants supplied traffickers with hundreds of pounds of meth during that time period.

Multiple law enforcement units on the federal, state and local levels worked on this case, including the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the City County Narcotics Unit of Canyon County, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Gooding County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Idaho State Police.
