MALAD — A Malad man was arrested after allegedly viewing child pornography at a public library in Southeast Idaho.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Tim Thorpe has been charged with allegedly Child-Sexual Exploitation of by Willfully Possessing or Accessing Sexually Exploitative Material.

The investigation began after the sheriff’s office received a report that child pornography was allegedly being viewed at the Oneida County Library in Malad. An investigation was initiated and evidence was seized for analysis. A computer was part of the evidence that is currently being analyzed.

Oneida County Sheriff Jeff Semrad said that because Thorpe was a county employee and the library was a county facility, investigators with the Tri-County Sheriff’s Investigators were asked to take over the case because of potential conflicts of interest.

Tri-County Investigators later said that there was probable cause to arrest Thorpe.

The Tri-County Sheriff’s Association and the Department of Homeland Security are continuing the investigation.
