SHELLEY — Shelley City Hall was temporarily evacuated on Monday afternoon following a power pole fire.

Randy Adams, assistant fire chief for the fire station in Shelley, which is part of the Shelley-Firth Rural Fire District in Bingham County, said a power pole near Center Street started on fire, causing live wires to fall to the ground. They burned through some asphalt and damaged wires in the basement of City Hall.

Adams said they closed off a portion of Center Street and temporarily evacuated City Hall while a Rocky Mountain Power crew addressed the problem. He believes the power pole fire was weather-related.

As a result of the incident, there was a power outage at 3:47 p.m. that affected 937 customers in the Shelley area, said Margaret Oler, a spokesperson with Rocky Mountain Power. Most of the power was restored about 30 minutes later, but it took until 5:18 p.m. to get everything repaired.
