POCATELLO — Portneuf Medical Center has returned to normal operations following a reported air conditioning outage on Sept. 7, officials said.

The malfunctioning equipment caused temperatures inside the hospital to swell, resulting in the cancellation or delay of some surgeries and the transfer of some patients to other care facilities, PMC said.

As a temporary solution, PMC installed more than 200 fans and 60 portable air conditioning units throughout the hospital, along with securing a temporary chiller until both of the facility’s permanent chillers are fully repaired, according to PMC officials.

Since the outage, temperatures in the Southeast Idaho area have also gone down as the fall season approaches, assisting in the overall cooling of the hospital.

“Cooling has been restored throughout the hospital and normal temperatures returned on Friday, which has allowed PMC to return to normal operations,” PMC stated in a Tuesday email to the Idaho State Journal. “The air conditioning system is fully functional with temporary chillers that will remain in place until repairs are fully completed to the permanent chillers.”
