POCATELLO — The city of Pocatello is asking residents to weigh in on the future of City Creek’s trail system before a May 28 deadline, as planners work to overhaul one of the area’s most popular outdoor recreation areas.

The city’s Outdoor Recreation Division is partnering with the International Mountain Bicycling Association to develop a multi-use Trails Master Plan for City Creek, a nearly 3,000-acre recreation area on the city’s eastern edge. The effort was identified as a priority in the city’s 2025 Parks, Recreation, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan.

Many of City Creek’s existing trails were created without formal planning, leading to erosion and environmental impacts in some areas. The new master plan aims to create a more sustainable, community-supported trail system while preserving the area’s natural character.

The International Mountain Bicycling Association has completed a field assessment and worked with city staff to develop a draft trail network proposal.

Cary Rhodes, outdoor recreation manager for the city of Pocatello, said the plan is about protecting what makes City Creek special.

“City Creek is a valued community asset enjoyed year-round by hikers, bikers, runners, and outdoor enthusiasts,” Rhodes said. “This master plan will help create a more sustainable trail system while preserving the area’s natural beauty for future generations.”

Residents can review the draft plan and complete an online survey at citycreektrailsplan-pocatello.hub.arcgis.com. The survey deadline is 5 p.m. May 28.

A community meeting will be held at 6 p.m. June 1 in City Council Chambers, 911 N. Seventh Ave., to present updates and gather additional feedback from trail users and stakeholders.
