POCATELLO — A longtime Pocatello-Chubbuck School District board member is stepping down, leaving a vacancy that the district is now working to fill.

The Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Zone 3 Trustee Jim Facer at a special meeting Thursday, with his resignation effective June 8. Facer has served on the board twice — from 2012 to 2015 and again from 2020 to the present.

Board Chair Raymond Knoff praised Facer’s contributions to the district.

“Jim has served this district with integrity, consistency and genuine care for learners and families,” Knoff said. “His leadership and dedication to public education have made a lasting impact on our district and community.”

During his tenure Facer helped guide the district through significant initiatives including the development of PV-TEC and was known for his advocacy on behalf of students, staff and public education in the Pocatello/Chubbuck community.

The board adopted a resolution declaring a vacancy in the Zone 3 trustee seat and established a timeline for filling it. Under Idaho law, the board has up to 90 days to appoint a qualified replacement to serve the remainder of the unexpired term.

Candidate interviews are scheduled for June 25 and/or June 29. If a candidate is selected, they would be sworn in at the board’s regular meeting on July 21 at 5:30 p.m.
