AMERICAN FALLS — City of American Falls Fire Chief Pete Williams said the fire department will not be pressing charges against the resident of a third story apartment building who accidently caught her kitchen curtains on fire early Monday evening.
Williams said the unidentified female resident had a propane stove set up in her kitchen with a skillet on the stove top burner. Another small container of propane was set inside of the skillet that was filled with water.
The small container started to emit flames and caught the curtains on fire of the kitchen window. Those driving by the apartment building on Pocatello Avenue noticed the flames and called 911.
Police, fire and ambulance units were sent to the scene and closed off Pocatello Avenue on the corner of Tyhee Avenue for less than an hour.
Volunteer firefighters put a small hole in the ceiling of the kitchen inside the apartment to let in cool air, and watered down the floor of the kitchen where the fire had started.
