BLACKFOOT — A neighbor's quick warning allowed a family to escape safely Tuesday after a fire ignited in their attached garage and spread into their home, the Blackfoot Fire Department said.

The department received the call about the fire at the home on James Street at 12:21 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters arrived to find the attached garage fully engulfed by flames.

Firefighters pulled an attack line to the garage for extinguishment and a second line to the front door for suppression and to search the home. The fire was marked under control at 1:04 p.m.

There were no injuries but the family who lived at the home was displaced by the blaze. It's believed they are staying with relatives until the damage to their home can be repaired. The home was insured, authorities said.

The family was alerted to the fire by a neighbor before firefighters arrived, allowing all occupants to get out safely.

Damage was mostly contained to the garage, with some fire damage reaching the kitchen and smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the home.

The Blackfoot fire marshal, Blackfoot fire chief and the state Fire Marshal's office investigated the scene. Investigators determined the fire originated on the northeast side of the garage. The cause remains under investigation.
