HEYBURN — A Florida man was killed Monday night on Interstate 84 near Heyburn in Minidoka County after he was struck by a pickup truck while walking the wrong way in the westbound lanes, Idaho State Police said.

The crash occurred at 10:29 p.m. near milepost 207 on westbound I-84. The 44-year-old man from Sebring, Florida, was walking eastbound in the westbound lanes when a white 2013 Ram 2500 pickup truck struck him. He died at the scene.

The driver, a 22-year-old woman from Jerome, and her passenger, a 21-year-old man from Declo, were not injured. Both were wearing seatbelts, state police said.

The names of all three individuals have not been released.

The westbound lanes of I-84 were blocked for approximately two and a half hours following the crash.

Why the man was walking on the interstate was not immediately known. The crash remains under investigation.

Idaho State Police were assisted by the Minidoka County Sheriff's Office, Cassia County Sheriff's Office, Heyburn Police Department, West End QRU, Emergency Run Ambulance and the Idaho Transportation Department.
