CHUBBUCK — An explosion in a shop building near Chubbuck sent a local man to the hospital with serious injuries.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the shop building outside of a home on North Nelson Lane, authorities said.

A 45-year-old male resident of the home suffered serious injuries in the explosion. He was transported via Pocatello Fire Department ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center following the incident.

His name has not been released.

The shop building sustained heavy damage in the blast, authorities said.

The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and as of Thursday was still trying to determine what caused the explosion.

Bannock County sheriff’s deputies and the North Bannock Fire Department also responded.
