A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly threatening to bomb the Lewiston Police Department.

Joseph D. Dean, of Lewiston, is charged with making a false report of explosives in public, a felony.

According to court documents, police interacted with Dean Tuesday evening while performing a welfare check.

As officers were leaving, emergency dispatchers received a call from a man identified as Dean. According to court documents, he reportedly told first responders, “I would look very carefully for a bomb if I were you.”

Authorities noted in the probable-cause affidavit they believe he was talking about a bomb at the police department. It was later determined the bomb threat was false.

Police were unable to locate Dean and issued a warrant for his arrest. Court documents say Dean was found Wednesday evening and taken into custody.

Dean made an initial appearance at Nez Perce County 2nd District Court on Wednesday. He is being held at the Nez Perce County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
