The Idaho Transportation Department has started two projects in Southeast Idaho, replacing the asphalt road surface on Highway 30 near McCammon and has resumed construction on Interstate 15 in Inkom.

The I-15 project is part of a multi-year effort that began last year to replace bridges over Main Street, Rapid Creek Road and the Union Pacific Railroad in the Inkom area. Last year, the three southbound bridges were replaced and crews have now shifted their focus to the northbound bridges. The project has an expected completion date of late October.

On Monday, traffic on I-15 was shifted to one lane in each direction on the southbound lanes.

ITD has announced a series of closures in the coming weeks as part of the project.

The West Inkom Interchange northbound on-ramp, Exit 58, will close nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Thursday. Traffic will be detoured to the Portneuf Gap area, Exit 63, via Highway 91.

March 13-16, Inkom’s Main Street and North Rapid Creek Road under I-15 will close nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via Highway 91 and North Inkom Road.

ITD is urging motorists to watch for workers, use caution and drive safely through work zones.

Separately, ITD on Monday began work on U.S. Highway 30 east of the Interstate 15 McCammon Interchange. The project will replace the asphalt road surface with concrete, improving pavement conditions and durability and providing better access for heavy loads and semi-trucks serving businesses along the Interstate Oasis.

Work is scheduled to be completed before the July 4 holiday weekend.

During construction, motorists should expect single-lane closures and reduced speed limits. Access to businesses along the construction area will remain open.
