POCATELLO — Continuing its tradition of honoring civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Idaho State University will host a march and day of service next week.

The university is inviting the public to join the festivities, which will kick off with a march Jan. 19. Participants will gather at 12:30 p.m. at the Reed Gym parking lot and proceed up the hill to Jensen Concert Hall inside the Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Transportation will be available for individuals who need accommodations during the march, and hot cocoa will be provided at the march’s conclusion.

A program will follow in Jensen Concert Hall with remarks from ISU President Robert Wagner, a musical performance and a panel discussion.

The celebrations continue Jan. 21, when the Bengal community is invited to participate in a service project in the Pond Student Union from noon to 1 p.m. Students will make cards for residents at the Idaho State Veterans Home and other local care facilities.

In honor of King, the ISU Bengal Movie Theater will feature the 2014 historical drama “Selma” from Jan. 22-24 at 7 p.m., with a matinee at 4 p.m. Jan. 24. “Selma” is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches and was nominated for best picture, winning best original song at the 87th Academy Awards. The movie also received four Golden Globe Award nominations, again winning for best original song.

Tickets are free for ISU students, $2 for faculty, staff and children younger than 12, and $3 for the general public.
