A 1-year-old girl is recovering at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City after she was seriously injured in a crash in Bingham County on Saturday. 

Blackfoot resident Jayde Hoover said her daughter, Mila, sustained an open skull fracture and experienced some bleeding in her frontal lobe. Surgeons have since been able to repair the fracture, but they are still draining spinal fluid through a tube to keep the pressure down, she said. 

“As of right now, she has been waking up occasionally and we even got a smile today,” Hoover said Wednesday. 

Hoover and her daughter were involved in a two-vehicle wreck in the area of 350 W. Highway 26 on Saturday. 

Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland said Hoover was driving one of the vehicles while Blackfoot resident Gary David Call, 62, was driving the other. 

Call was cited for reckless driving following the crash, Rowland said. 

According to Bingham County Magistrate Court records, Call pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor and was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail, but the time appears to have been suspended. He was also ordered to pay a fine.  

Hoover said the collision occurred on the side of the vehicle where her daughter was sitting. 

“We are taking it hour by hour, but she is an incredibly strong girl,” Hoover said, “and it looks like we will be able to leave the hospital in about two weeks.”

Hoover said she is grateful for all of the support she’s received since the crash. 

“We appreciate all of the positive thoughts and well wishes very much,” she said.
