Grocery Outlet Bargain Market is closing 36 underperforming stores, including ones in Idaho Falls and Pocatello.

The Idaho stores are located at 2455 E. 25th St. in Idaho Falls and 1732 Hurley Drive in Pocatello.

The company announced on March 4 that it will close these stores nationwide as part of a “business optimization plan” to improve long-term profitability. These closures follow a period of rapid expansion and disappointing fourth-quarter 2025 financial results, which included a $218.2 million net loss.

Jason Potter, president and CEO of the California-based retailer, said the closures are a cost-cutting correction for expanding too quickly. The chain has approximately 570 stores in 16 states.

He also cited changes in SNAP benefits that have impacted the brand’s core customer base.

Stores in California, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania will also be closing.

The company says they plan to complete the closures during the fiscal year.

Prior to the announcement, Idaho had 17 Grocery Outlets.

The close-out sale at both locations closing in Idaho are underway. The final day for shopping will be Saturday, March 21.

Despite the closures, Grocery Outlet still plans to open 30 to 33 new stores in 2026 using a more disciplined “clustered model” to improve supply chain efficiency, Potter said.
