Jeff Bosley no longer serves as a Green Beret, but he is still finding some unique ways to use his skills. For instance, he recently helped rescue researchers who were being held hostage on a ship in the South China Sea — or at least he convincingly acted like he did on the new military drama “SEAL Team” on CBS.

Bosley, who grew up in Pocatello, recently appeared on the fictional show’s third episode “Boarding Party,” and the part allowed him to use his abilities not only as an actor, but also as a veteran.

While Bosley spent two days working on the show and appeared in a few scenes, he hopes the part will lead to more opportunities in the future.

“There’s been some interest in having me come back as a character,” he said, adding that he has faith that will turn out to be the case. “Tell everybody in Pocatello to pray for me.”

Bosley said he likes the show that is not only entertaining, but it also portrays the challenges that military personnel can face as they transition from firefights to family life. In addition, he appreciates the fact that those behind the show work hard to get the details right and they do that by listening to and using people who know those details.

“(They’re working with) people who did the jobs for real,” Bosley said.

He said other veterans have been working on the show, too, and he thinks that can make a big difference when it comes to the details — like knowing how to handle a rifle, approach a corner and act in a tight space.

Bosley said he was basically doing what he would have as a Green Beret, just ironically, while acting like a Navy SEAL, and he thinks that realism is important when it comes to capturing and keeping the attention of today’s audiences.

While he hopes to return to the show in the future, Bosley has been working on some other projects as well. He recently spent two and a half months in Korea working on a feature film that’s currently being referred to simply as PMC.

He plays a supporting lead role in that show, which he says is one of his biggest projects to date.

Bosley has also acted in dozens of other films, TV shows and theater productions over the years.

He’s currently living in Los Angeles and is pursuing his acting career — a dream that dates back to childhood — full time.

“I live, eat and breathe this,” he said.

Bosley has a tattoo that portrays the Archangel Michael hovering over a headstone. He says he’s adding a hash mark for each life goal he fulfills. He already has one for his time as a Green Beret. He said he will add another once he feels like he has achieved his acting dreams. But he said that could be a while because he’s not easily satisfied.

Bosley said the hardest part of being an actor is that sometimes working hard isn’t enough. Still, he plans to do everything he can to achieve his dream.

“(You) take a leap of faith,” he said.
