POCATELLO — Five children were struck by a car late Thursday morning near Ross Park in Pocatello.

The incident happened around 11:50 a.m. at Barton Road and South Fourth Avenue as the children were walking from their nearby school to Ross Park, Pocatello police said.

The car involved in the incident first collided with a compact SUV at the intersection and then struck the children, police said.

None of the occupants of either vehicle suffered injuries, authorities said.

The five injured children were rushed via Pocatello Fire Department ambulances to Portneuf Medical Center for treatment immediately following the accident.

Police said initial indications are that all five will survive.

The incident temporarily shut down the Barton Road-South Fourth intersection and as of 1 p.m. the intersection was still partially blocked.

Motorists should avoid the area while emergency responders are on the scene.

Assisting Pocatello police and fire units were Idaho State Police, Bannock County sheriff’s deputies and search and rescue personnel, and Idaho State University Public Safety officers.

The drivers of both vehicles cooperated with law enforcement at the scene and no criminal charges are being considered at this time, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation by Pocatello police.
