POCATELLO — A north Pocatello apartment building was evacuated Sunday night after a fire ignited in one of its units, authorities said.

The fire at the apartment building on the 1500 block of Bench Road was reported around 10:30 p.m. by residents of the complex who smelled smoke, police said.

The Pocatello Fire Department responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread.

Pocatello police evacuated the apartment building's eight units. All of those residents were later allowed to return to their apartments except for the people who lived in the unit where the fire ignited.

The damage to that unit was serious enough that the residents will have to find a new place to stay until repairs can be made.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, authorities said.
