POCATELLO — The Portneuf Valley Amateur Radio Emergency Service Group (Portneuf Valley ARES) will be hosting a free entry level license class for anyone interested in obtaining their entry level amateur radio (HAM) license.

    The class will be held on Jan. 4, 11 and 18 from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. each day. The classes will run later on Jan. 18 for testing.

    Classes will be held in the Idaho State University ELS building, 1001 N. Seventh Ave. in Pocatello across the parking lot from Pocatello City Hall.

    Anyone can take the class, there is no age limit. The class is free. However, there is a $15 fee for the license exam test session, which will be offered at the conclusion of the class. Books are $24 and can be shared among family members and friends. The books are not required, but are helpful to students.

    Participation in the class is not  required to take the license exam on Jan. 18, but test fees still apply. No membership in the Portneuf Valley ARES group is required.
