Four people died in three separate crashes on Interstate 15 across East Idaho during a span of less than 72 hours last week.

The string of fatal wrecks began the morning of Oct. 21 near Fort Hall, continued Thursday evening north of Spencer and concluded early Friday morning in Pocatello.

Authorities have released the names of all four of the people killed.

Friday morning crash in north PocatelloThe most recent fatal crash occurred at 2 a.m. Friday on Interstate 15 in north Pocatello.

Randell Case, 47, of Pocatello, was traveling northbound on the freeway in a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000 GT when he veered to the right, hit the guardrail, went over it and struck the Monte Vista overpass pillar, authorities said.

Case was wearing a seat belt and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The Bannock County Coroner’s Office, in cooperation with Idaho State Police, confirmed Case’s identity Monday. Next of kin has been notified.

“I want to express my condolences to Randell’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner said.

Two of the three northbound lanes of Interstate 15 in north Pocatello were blocked for three hours because of the crash.

Thursday evening crash north of SpencerAnother fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 15 north of Spencer.

A 1996 Dodge van, driven by a 77-year-old woman with a 76-year-old male passenger, was traveling southbound on Interstate 15 when the vehicle drove into the median, overturned and came to rest in the freeway’s northbound left lane, state police said. The man and woman are from Lethbridge, Canada, state police said

Clark County Coroner Brenda Laird identified the passenger as Terry Bertamini on Monday.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Bertamini was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, state police said.

The left lane of northbound Interstate 15 was blocked for approximately four hours because of the crash. Idaho State Police were assisted at the scene by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Clark County Emergency Medical Services.

Tuesday morning crash near Fort HallThe first crash of the deadly stretch occurred at approximately 8:05 a.m. Oct. 21 near Fort Hall when a Peterbilt semi and Ford F-450 flatbed pickup collided on Interstate 15, state police said.

Both vehicles were traveling northbound on the freeway when the collision occurred. The impact caused the Ford flatbed to leave the freeway and overturn, state police said.

The occupants of the Ford — driver Manuel Rodriguez-Baltazar, 42, and passenger Raul Navarrete, 44, both of Rupert — were not wearing seat belts and died at the scene, authorities said.

The driver of the semi, a 75-year-old man from McCammon, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. His name has not been released.

Northbound traffic on Interstate 15 was periodically blocked for more than two hours following the crash. Troopers are still trying to determine what caused the collision.

All three crashes remain under investigation by Idaho State Police.
