BOISE — The Boise Police Department announced the arrest of five suspects following investigations into two attacks on vulnerable adults.

Boise Police began investigating a report of several juveniles battering a vulnerable adult on Oct. 12, leading to the identification of four juvenile suspects and 19-year-old suspect Tristan Febus of Boise.

The investigation, led by Boise Police Juvenile Detectives, school resources officers and Special Victims Unit Detectives, found evidence indicating this incident involved suspects attempting to rob the victim before physically assaulting him, a release from the Boise Police Department said.

As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered evidence of a second incident involving a different vulnerable adult victim that took place on Aug. 2. In this case, the “suspects lured a victim to a location, stole items from him, and assaulted him,” the release said, adding that not all of the suspects were involved in both incidents.

Both victims have since been able to recover physically, a BPD spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Speaking to how the victim was lured, the spokesperson said the suspects communicated with the August victim online prior to the incident. In both cases, the victims were not previously known to the suspects.

Additionally, while both incidents were unrelated to any school activity, one did take place near a school, the spokesperson stated.

According to Idaho code, vulnerable adults are defined as individuals over the age of 18 who are unable to protect themselves from maltreatment due to a mental, physical or developmental disability, a degenerative brain disease, “an inability to communicate or implement decisions regarding his person or other infirmities of aging in an older adult.”

The five suspects were arrested on Nov. 5. The four juvenile suspects were booked into the Ada County Juvenile Detention Center while Febus was booked into the Ada County Jail on charges of attempted robbery, two counts of battery with intent to commit a serious felony, two counts of criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault, robbery and burglary — all of which are felony charges.

The release said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible in the case as additional search warrants are served in connection with the investigation.
