American Falls 13, Snake River 7

AMERICAN FALLS - The American Falls Beavers got back to their winning ways using a familiar formula - a run-heavy offense and solid defense.

American Falls rushed for 244 yards and kept Snake River scoreless after the first quarter to emerge with a 13-7 home win Friday in their 3A Fifth District opener.

"We rest our hat on running the ball," Johnson said. "When we needed to get third-and-short and fourth-and-short, we were able to get the surge and get a first down."

The teams ended the first quarter tied 7-7, with American Falls (4-2, 1-0 3A Fifth District) getting their score on a 30-yard Paden Johnson run. Johnson almost got his second score, but his 85-yard sweep run in the third quarter got called back for a holding penalty.

The Beavers finally broke through for the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, when Camilo Carretero, who finished with a game-high 109 yards on the ground, rumbled in from 20 yards out.

Kody Laggis sealed the win for the Beavers when he intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter.

The win gives American Falls an early lead in the chase for the 3A Fifth District title, with longtime district powerhouse Snake River falling to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the district.
