POCATELLO — A 20-year-old local man was recently arrested after police say his probation officer found child sexual abuse material on his computer during a routine house check in June.

Hunter Christian Roberts Albano, of Pocatello, faces two felony counts of possessing child exploitative material following his Nov. 10 arrest, according to an affidavit of probable cause and court records the Idaho State Journal recently obtained.

The investigation into Albano began June 26 when his juvenile probation officer requested assistance from Pocatello police while conducting a house check at Albano’s South 15th Avenue residence, the affidavit said.

The probation officer told the responding officer that Albano’s Chromebook was open near him with his Google Photos displayed on the screen and that while scrolling through the photographs, he observed multiple pornographic images and one specifically that he believed was child sexual abuse material, police said in the affidavit.

Officers seized Albano’s two Chromebooks and his cellphone and transported them to the Pocatello Police Department, where they were placed in forensic lockers.

A search warrant for Albano’s Google account was granted by 6th District Magistrate Judge Carol “Tippi” Jarman on Oct. 14 and served on Google LLC that same day, the affidavit states. Google provided data from Albano’s Gmail account on Nov. 3, and when investigators reviewed the information, a second image of child sexual abuse material was located, police said.

Around 3 p.m. on Nov. 10, Pocatello police responded to a residence on West Eldredge Road, where Albano was arrested on the two counts of possession of sexually exploitative material and transported to Bannock County Jail in Pocatello.

Albano appeared before 6th District Magistrate Judge David A. Hooste for an arraignment hearing on Nov. 12, where his bond was set at $1,000. Court records do not show when Albano was released from jail, but he is no longer incarcerated according to Bannock County Sheriff’s Office records.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Nov. 25 for a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors will attempt to present sufficient evidence to elevate the case from magistrate to district court for trial.

If convicted of the two felony child exploitative charges, Albano faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
