IDAHO FALLS — A motorcyclist who drove twice the speed limit in an attempt to escape an Idaho State Police trooper’s traffic stop reportedly drove through a yard where a child was playing.

A probable cause affidavit states the trooper attempted to stop Benjamin Storer, 39, after Storer was seen driving 100 mph on U.S. 20.

Storer reportedly ignored the police siren and lights and took an exit to Hitt Road. He reportedly continued to drive at speeds of 80 mph when the speed limit was only 40 mph.

The trooper wrote that Storer took multiple turns without using his turn signal. When he turned into a resident’s yard, a child was reportedly near the house watching the pursuit.

“Storer put the property and lives of others in danger as he willfully fled from me,” the trooper wrote in the affidavit.

An Idaho Falls Police Department officer joined the pursuit and was able to cut Storer off from fleeing. He reportedly refused to get off his motorcycle and on the ground. The trooper used a Taser on him and he was arrested.

Storer was charged with attempting to elude a police officer in a motor vehicle, punishable with up to five years in prison. He was released on pretrial supervision.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 26 in Bonneville County Court.
