A Nampa man was sentenced to serve up to four decades in prison for the 2020 murder of an active-duty Marine.

Devon Arnold, 22, must serve 15 years of his 40-year sentence before he’s eligible for parole, Ada County District Judge Patrick Miller ruled Friday. Arnold pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in April.

Lance Cpl. Davis Mosqueda, 20, was shot and killed by Arnold just after 1 a.m. on Dec. 30, 2020, outside an apartment near Fairview Avenue and Cloverdale Road in Boise. Mosqueda exited the apartment to check on a friend who was talking to Arnold; Mosqueda was unarmed when Arnold approached him in the parking lot and shot him four times, according to a press release from the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office.

Mosqueda, who was stationed in Washington, D.C., had flown into Boise days earlier to spend the holidays with his mother and other relatives, according to previous reporting by KTVB.

“I want to extend my deepest condolences to Mr. Mosqueda’s family and friends,” Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts said in the release. “Thank you to the Boise Police detectives who worked tirelessly on this case.”
