NAMPA — A woman allegedly admitted on Monday to setting the home where she lived on fire because “she was angry about her living arrangements,” according to a Nampa Police Department news release.

A Nampa firefighter was injured while fighting the fire. He was sent to a local hospital but has since been released and is back to full-duty status. No other injuries were reported. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Daphnee Amike Onuoha, 34, of Nampa, was arrested Monday afternoon on charges of felony burglary and felony first-degree arson.

If convicted of the arson charge, Onuoha could face up to 25 years in prison, and-or fined up to $100,000, according to Idaho Code 18-802.

While not mentioned in the initial release, NPD said the burglary charge was for “the illegal entry into a building or structure with the intent to commit a crime.”

“(Onuoha) entered a store with the intent to steal items to start the fire,” said Carmen Boeger, NPD’s community engagement coordinator.

If convicted of the burglary charge, Onuoha could face between one and 10 years in prison, according to Idaho Code 18-1403.

Nampa Police Dispatch Center received several reports at 3:54 p.m. about a house fire in the 1800 block of Ridge Point Avenue in Nampa. While Nampa firefighters put out the fire, they found the fire was “possibly set intentionally and requested police for a potential arson investigation,” the release states.

During the preliminary investigation of the fire, they spoke to Onuoha, who said she lived at the home with two relatives and admitted she had set the fire. Onuoha now faces the two felony charges and sits at Canyon County Jail, where she was taken without incident.
