PRESTON — A 53-year-old local registered sex offender was back behind bars in December after authorities say he molested a child in 2023.

Stanley Robin Keller, of Preston, was charged with felony lewd conduct with a child under 16 in December following a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigation launched in April when the victim, a 6-year-old girl he babysat, disclosed the abuse, according to sheriff’s office and court records the Idaho State Journal obtained.

Keller is a registered sex offender who was convicted of two counts of sexual abuse of a child under 16 in 1992, according to the Idaho Sex Offender Registry.

The investigation began to unfold on April 4, 2025, after deputies responded to a Preston home because the girl had told other children about the abuse while playing on a trampoline, according to court records.

Deputies spoke with the children who heard the disclosure, and one child told authorities the group was talking about babysitters when the victim said Keller had been fired from babysitting her and disclosed what had happened, court records show. The child told investigators the girl said the abuse happened almost every day she was there, deputies said.

The victim participated in a forensic interview April 7 at a child advocacy center in Logan, Utah, where she said she and her sibling were babysat by Keller and his wife at their Preston residence approximately a year and a half earlier, according to court records.

The girl told investigators the alleged incidents occurred when Keller was alone with the children, deputies said.

The victim told the interviewer that on the day of the disclosure, she was jumping on the trampoline with friends, had a flashback of the abuse and screamed “Stop,” the report says. Her friends asked what was wrong, and she told them about the alleged abuse. The friends then shared the disclosure with an adult and the victim’s mother, court records show.

Deputies interviewed Keller at his residence April 30, 2025, and he confirmed he had babysat two young girls about a year earlier, according to court records.

When asked if he was ever home alone with the children, Keller said “not normally,” and he denied anything inappropriate had happened, deputies said.

Investigators conducted a second interview with Keller on May 14, 2025, during which he tried to shift blame to the victim, court records show.

During the second interview, Keller talked about “going to a jury trial and if he was found guilty that he would go to prison for life,” according to court records. When asked if authorities would find his DNA on any of the victim’s clothing, Keller said he “didn’t do anything” and ultimately terminated the interview, deputies said.

Keller was criminally charged Dec. 23 and arrested Dec. 29. He appeared before 6th District Judge Eric S. Hunn for an arraignment hearing Dec. 29, where his bond was set at $40,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim, court records show. Keller posted bond Dec. 31 and was released from jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 19 for a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors will attempt to present sufficient evidence to elevate the case from magistrate to district court for trial.

If convicted of the felony lewd conduct charge, Keller faces up to life in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
