Zeb Sion continues to move up in the coaching world.

The Highland High alumnus and Pocatello native was named the throws coach for the University of Texas at Austin track and field team Monday. He spent the last two seasons as the women's throws coach at Stanford University, helping the Cardinal women finish third at this year's NCAA Division I championships thanks to four first-team All-America finishes by Sion's throwers — who combined to score 31 of the team's 51 points.

Texas had two throwers earn first-team All-America status at this year's championships. The Longhorns' men's and women's teams finished 25th and 34th, respectively, in the team standings.

After his throwers' performances at nationals, Sion was named the 2018 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

"I'm extremely excited to have Zeb and his family joining us here on the Forty Acres," Texas head track coach Edrick Floreal said in a press release. "He has a proven track record of developing student-athletes no matter the level. I love the way that he integrates science and technology into his coaching and teaching as we believe this approach is best for our student-athletes here at Texas."

Before Stanford, Sion coached at Wake Forest University, the University of Chicago and Idaho State.

"I am incredibly grateful to coach Floreal and (Texas Athletics Director) Chris Del Conte and thrilled for the opportunity to come to the University of Texas," Sion said in the press release. "I feel as if my entire career has been building for an opportunity like this one and I'm excited about the challenge ahead at Texas. The type of student-athlete that we can attract here to the Forty Acres is something that I'm drawn to and I look forward to working with student-athletes who are driven to succeed both in the classroom and on the field of competition."
