The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office has appointed Andy Iverson as chief deputy, effective immediately.

Iverson joined the office in 1995 and has worked in nearly every facet of the department, including as a detention deputy, court marshal, patrol sergeant, detective and most recently as captain of the Criminal Division. As chief deputy, he will assist Sheriff Tony Manu with budgeting, administration and personnel oversight.

“Andy is going to do a great job in this new role. He’s been an asset to this office for more than 30 years, and I look forward to working with him in this new capacity,” Manu said.

Iverson’s promotion fills the vacancy left by Alex Hamilton, who retired April 29 after more than three decades with the office.

Hamilton said the best parts of his career came from the service side of the job — particularly watching people turn their lives around.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with people through their addictions and watch them change their lives,” Hamilton said. “Those are going to be the best parts of my career.”

It wasn’t just the thankful or appreciative members of the community whom Hamilton will miss the most.

“The relationships with all the guys,” he said. “That camaraderie — that’s the number one thing.”

“It’s bittersweet to see the friends I’ve worked with my whole career move on, but I wish Alex all the best and thank him for his dedicated service to our community,” Manu said.

With Iverson stepping into the chief deputy role, Jeremy Taysom will take over as captain of the Criminal Division and Jason Durham will serve as lieutenant presiding over the Detective Division.
