Ombudsmen: The SEICAA RSVP Program needs three volunteers for the Ombudsman role in the Bannock County area. Ombudsmen serve as volunteer advocates and problem solvers for people 60 years of age or older who have questions about long-term care. Long-term care may be in a person’s home, in an assisted living center or in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center. It’s time to come clean: The Blackfoot Community Dinner Table Pantry is looking for two to three people willing to clean (mopping, dusting, vacuuming, etc.) for approximately one hour each Friday at about 10 a.m. If they are able to field several volunteers, they can set up teams to clean every other Friday. Help preserve history: The Bannock County Historical Museum is always looking for people to help move collections into storage, stage and clean exhibits, label objects and perform database entry. The museum’s historic exhibit themes include the railroad, medical practices, general store, the military, Victorian parlor, Japanese Shrine, photography studio, prohibition police evidence, fire-fighting, local printing, ranching and farming, a Holladay Overland Stage Company stagecoach, horse tack, Shoshoni and Bannock ethnographic photographs and objects, local archaeological specimens and a research archive. Upcoming events include a presentation on the history and economic impact of Garrett Freight Lines and a presentation on the history of local architect Frank Paradice with a focus on the renovations at the Brady Chapel, which he designed. Rotary Youth Exchange hosts: The Pocatello Rotary Club is looking for families to host students, generally for a three-month stay. Students come from excellent family backgrounds and are well vetted by Rotary International to assure that students and host families have a positive experience. You do not need to be a Rotarian to host a Rotary exchange student. Families must pass a background check. Companionship volunteers: Alliance Hospice has opportunities for volunteers to give the gift of their time at a very special time in their clients’ lives. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, pass a background check and complete a minimum of six hours of volunteer orientation and training. Volunteers provide companionship, offering emotional and social support and can often help with light chores, running errands or reading to someone with a terminal illness. They also can take a Hospice Alliance Memory Book along and become a scribe for another person’s life. Comfort and Warmth: Project Linus could use some help making handmade blankets to provide warmth and comfort to sick and traumatized children.
