POCATELLO — The City of Pocatello has announced that it has found a new Animal Services Manager to work with the Animal Services team to strengthen the bond between people and pets.

The new Animal Services Manager is Liam Hughes, according to a news release from the city. Hughes has experience in shelter operations, animal cruelty investigations and advocating for animal welfare laws. Before moving to Pocatello, Hughes was the director for Animal Welfare for the State of Maine, and he was the director for the Washington Humane Society in Washington D.C.

Hughes first accepted the position in September and relocated his family to Pocatello in October. He said in the news release that he is honored to accept this new position.

“I’m honored to join the City of Pocatello team and excited to serve the residents of this great community,” Hughes said in the news release. “I look forward to supporting the city’s mission and working with departments to make a positive difference.”

Mayor Brian Blad said in the news release that he is glad that Hughes has taken this role.

“We’re thrilled to have Liam on board,” Blad said in the news release. “His experience and fresh perspective will be a valuable asset to the city.”
