BaseballBlackfoot Broncos: At the 5A District High Country Conference tournament, the Broncos defeated the Shelley Russets 16-5 in Blackfoot. That was last Tuesday. On Wednesday, they were in Ammon to face the Hillcrest Knights and lost, 2-1, in a hard-fought 8-inning game. Since this conference is a single-elimination tournament, this loss ended the Broncos’ bid for state. No. 2 Hillcrest went on to be defeated by No. 1 Bonneville, 16-0, but both are going on to state regionals.

Shelley Russets: The Russets lost to the Broncos last Tuesday, 16-5, in Blackfoot, ending their run to state.

Snake River Panthers: In Airmo at the 4A District 5 South East Idaho Conference, the No. 2-ranked Panthers lost to the No. 3 Bear Lake Bears, 13-12, last Thursday. The next morning, they faced the American Falls Beaver and defeated them, 12-0. Later on Friday, May 1, they were defeated by the No. 1 Marsh Valley Eagles, 7-1, which eliminated them in this double-elimination tournament. The Eagles went on to battle the Bears and prevailed twice to advance to state.

Firth Cougars: No. 2 Cougars in the 3A District 6 Nuclear Conference, after defeating the hosting No. 3 North Fremont Huskies, were defeated by the No. 1 Salmon Savages, 11-1, last Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Huskies had won the Challis-Mackay Miners, and once again the Huskies and Cougars battled — this time the Huskies won 13-4, eliminating the Cougars in the tournament. Though the Huskies later lost in the championship game against the Savages, 12-1, both are going on to state.

SoftballBlackfoot Broncos: The Broncos lost to the Hillcrest Knights, 8-5, at home last Tuesday. The next day, April 29, they were defeated again by the Knights, 9-5, on the road. Their final game of the season against the Century Diamondbacks was forfeited. The Broncos ended the season with a 5-5 record, which ranked them third in the district.

The 5A District 6 High Country Conference play started on Tuesday, May 5, when they played the Skyline Grizzlies in Idaho Falls, where the No. 1 Bonneville Bees are hosting the tournament.

Shelley Russets: The Russets won both games against the Skyline Grizzlies last week — on Tuesday they won 14-3 at home, and on Wednesday, they won 3-2 on the road. The Russets’ final game of the season was an exciting win against the Pocatello Bisons last Thursday, 3-2 in overtime lasting 9 innings. The Russets had a conference record of 5-5, but ended up ranked fourth due to a lower power ranking than the Broncos.

The Russetts are also a part of the 5A, District 6 High Country Conference, which started this week on Tuesday, May 5, when they faced the No. 5 Idaho Falls Tigers at Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls.

Snake River Panthers: The Panthers defeated the Marsh Valley Eagles last Wednesday, 12-11, in Airmo. They ended their season in 5th place with a 1-7 record.

The 4A District 5 East Idaho Conference began on Saturday, May 2, when the Panthers were defeated by the Marsh Valley Eagles, 15-13 in 9 innings. Pay back? Then, this Tuesday, they faced the American Falls Beavers.

Firth Cougars: The 3A District 6 Nuclear Conference, which is being hosted by No. 2-ranked Firth, began last Saturday, May 2, with the Cougars defeating the Ririe Bulldogs, 9-1. This Tuesday, the undefeated North Fremont Huskies faced the Cougars. The tournament final game featuring the winner of Tuesday’s game will be on Thursday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m.
