CASCADE — Authorities have recovered a body from the Payette River one week after a crash on Highway 55 sent a vehicle into the water.

First responders recovered the body— which has not yet been publicly identified— from the river on Sunday afternoon, Idaho State Police announced. The body was located about three miles downstream of the crash site by a passerby, who notified law enforcement. The recovery effort was led by ISP, the Valley County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue Unit.

Investigators believe the individual was driving the Dodge Ram pickup that collided with another vehicle on Highway 55 south of Cascade on Sunday, May 31, and left the roadway before going into the North Fork of the Payette River. Evidence indicates the man was the sole occupant of the pickup “and that all individuals associated with the crash have been accounted for,” ISP said.

The pickup was recovered from the river on June 1.

The Valley County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased and determine the cause and manner of death as ISP continues to investigate the crash.
