BLACKFOOT — Bingham Healthcare announced that it was able to distribute 6,000 meals and breast cancer awareness packets during its recent Brake for Breakfast event.

According to a news release from Bingham Healthcare, Brake for Breakfast is an event that aims to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention and detection. The message of the event is "Peace, Love and Prevention."

People who attended the event were given free breakfast with breast cancer awareness resources. The goal was to show how early detection can give people more time with their families and create peace of mind for their families.

Valerie Jewett, Director of Marketing at Bingham Healthcare, said in the news release that the hospital is grateful for the support the community gave them during the event.

"Breast cancer touches so many lives, and through Brake for Breakfast, we hope to make people aware that early detection can save lives," she said in the news release. "It's about making sure everyone has more time with the people they care about, and that brings a sense of peace."

There were people lining up for the event as early as 4 a.m. Jewett said in the news release that there were even people who took extra bags to give to their family and friends.

"This year, we distributed bags across Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and Pocatello," she said in the news release. "We couldn't be more appreciative of the incredible participation. Together, we're spreading the message of peace, love and prevention."

Brake for Breakfast is part of a nationwide initiative to increase awareness about breast cancer prevention. Communities across the country have taken part in similar events that combine health education with free meals and resources.
