Two members of a university cycling team have been killed and seven others were injured in a car crash in northeastern Tennessee. Milligan University said 11 of its cyclists were out together on a morning training ride when they were struck by a driver in Hampton. Sophomores Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers were killed in the crash. The county’s district attorney said a 69-year-old man from North Carolina had been arrested. As of Wednesday evening, four students were in critical condition, two others were stable but remained in the hospital, and one student had been discharged, the hospital’s trauma medical director said.

A Democratic congresswoman says the person Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents targeted in Maine last month when an officer shot and killed a motorist was not subject to a final removal order. Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a 25-year-old Colombian national, was shot and killed by an ICE agent in a car near his Biddeford home on July 13. Rep. Chellie Pingree said during a hearing in Maine on Monday that ICE’s intended target was Durán Guerrero’s roommate. Pingree called the discovery a shocking revelation in contradiction to what ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have said about the shooting.
Irish musicians and entertainers were among mourners who packed into a Dublin cathedral for the funeral of Glen Hansard, the Academy Award-winning singer-songwriter killed last week in a motorcycle crash, aged 56. Actors Steve Coogan and Chris O’Dowd joined musicians including Bono and Hozier for the service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Tuesday. Hundreds more watched on big screens outside. The ceremony featured performances, including one by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder. Hansard was known for his work with The Frames and The Swell Season and won an Oscar for “Falling Slowly.” Tributes poured in, with Bruce Springsteen expressing heartbreak over the loss.
