Stefan Gonzalez (Highland) – University of California, Davis

Highland High School graduate Stefan Gonzalez had one of the best games in his UC Davis men’s basketball career Saturday against UC Riverside.

The junior guard compiled a season-high 14 points, six rebounds and two assists to help propel his team to an 84-71 road win against the Highlanders in his second start of the season. Gonzalez was 4 of 6 from 3-point range and 1 of 1 from inside the arc.

Gonzalez is averaging 5.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per game.

UC Davis (6-14, 2-4 Big West Conference) plays Thursday at Cal Poly.

Brayden Parker (Preston) – College of Southern Idaho

Preston High School graduate Brayden Parker was named Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week after impressive performances last week for the College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team.

Parker averaged 16 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in wins against Colorado Northwestern and Salt Lake Community College. He was 14 of 21 from the floor and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line combined in those games.

Parker is averaging 9.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in 17.3 minutes per game.

CSI (20-5, 5-2 Scenic West Athletic Conference) hosts Utah State Eastern on Thursday.

Cierra Simmons-Mecham (Soda Springs) – Utah State University

Soda Springs High School graduate Cierra Simmons-Mecham had a record-breaking race for the Utah State women’s track team on Jan. 26 in the Washington Invitational.

The senior long-distance runner broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter race, with a time of 9 minutes, 23.86 seconds to place fifth at the Washington event. Simmons-Mecham was also part of a distance medley relay team that tallied an indoor team-record time of 11:37.89 to finish 10th.

Utah State competes in the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite Invitational on Friday at New Mexico.
