A Pocatello Fire Department employee was involved in a vehicular accident on his day off Tuesday along Interstate-15 near the Fort Hall exit when the trailer he was pulling started to fishtail.
No one was injured when the trailer that was hauling a tractor tipped and destroyed the machinery in the northbound lane of travel.
“I wasn’t able to save the tractor but at least I didn’t role my truck,” said Justin Clemons, a Pocatello firefighter who lives in Shelley. “I was able to get it under control once, after catching a gust of wind, but then it started fishtailing again and the tractor flipped off the back.”
The tractor rolled across the interstate and came to rest in a field on the eastbound side of the roadway. A semi-trailer truck driving behind the truck and trailer ran over some of the tractor pieces in the roadway and at least one of its tires was flat.
Clemons was driving from Pocatello to his home in Shelley.
“My wife and I are fixing up the yard as we just bought a house,” Clemons said. “I had borrowed the tractor so that we could till the ground to prepare it for the planting of orchardgrass.”
Clemons said the end result could have been far worse.
“Everyone is fine,” Clemons said, adding that his wife, Dominique, was in the vehicle with him at the time of the wreck. “We were lucky. There wasn’t a car within a hundred yards of us.”
Idaho State Police troopers and Fort Hall Police officers responded to the accident that occurred just before 10 a.m.
The right hand lane of travel was partially blocked until the debris could be cleared from the highway.

Fireman or not, he needs to learn how to load and secure cargo if he is going to haul it on the highways. I am sure he is 100% to blame for it happening because he was the driver.. He probably had it situated too far back without enough weight on the tongue and back of the pickup and clearly it had insufficient tie downs on it to keep it on the trailer. The wind, did not cause this to happen...
I will have to agree with unnamed. Him being a fire fighter had nothing to do with the accident. So why even mention what his employment is? Makes no sense!
Whatever does the fact that Mr. Clemons is a Pocatello firefighter have to do with this story? Absolutely nothing!!! It makes no difference where Mr. Clemons is employed. Just report the accident as an accident story and don't try to make a good man look bad.
