POCATELLO — The Museum of Clean and My World Discovery Museum are teaming up for the third year to host Touch-A-Truck, returning June 9 with a helicopter flyby, a giant sand pit and dozens of large vehicles for families to explore up close.

Presented by Western States CAT, the free, all-ages event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday outside both museums at 711 S. Second Ave. It began as a grand opening celebration for My World Discovery Museum and has grown to draw thousands of attendees annually.

This year, vehicles will be divided into zones: a first responder section featuring the Pocatello Fire Department and Pocatello Police, a construction zone with equipment from Western States CAT and other heavy equipment companies, and a pit stop play zone with activities including a Les Schwab obstacle course.

“The city of Pocatello is bringing a number of vehicles — the garbage truck, the Pocatello trolley, the fire department and the police department — and then we have Western States CAT as the presenting sponsor,” said Haley VanDyke, event director. “They’re bringing all sorts of construction equipment, from the excavator to the skid steer.”

A large dirt dump is planned for 5 p.m., creating a giant sand pit for children and their families. Poky Cars & Coffee will host a car show inside the event center.

“We want it to be a really engaging experience for the family,” VanDyke said. “We’ve got a little kid car wash, we have activities from the Portneuf Library, kids get to play with cars and paint. Lookout Credit Union brings in their van and plays music.”

New this year, Portneuf Air Rescue will conduct a helicopter flyby starting at 6 p.m., weather and emergency availability permitting.

Food trucks will include The Corndog Company, Bluebird Pizza and Dodo To Go, among others.

“I think it’s a beloved event for children and a great kickoff to the summer,” VanDyke said. “Most importantly, all of our sponsors donate money that goes directly back to the Museum of Clean and My World Discovery Museum. We want to continue to benefit children of southeast Idaho by providing new, exciting exhibits and activities.”
