The Portneuf Health Amphitheatre will host a free public watch party Friday for the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square’s 100th anniversary concert, which will be broadcast live from the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with a pre-show at 5:45 p.m. The broadcast begins at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and is expected to draw up to 9,000 people.

The Pocatello event is one of several watch parties happening across East Idaho.

Other locations screening the concert at 6 p.m. Friday, June 26, include the BYU-Idaho Stadium in Rexburg, the Montpelier Tabernacle at 630 Washington St., and the Gem Valley Performing Arts Center at 704 Main St. in Grace.

{p dir=”ltr”}The Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls will be screening the concert on Saturday, June 27, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the broadcast beginning at 6:30 p.m.

If you do not see a large public venue listed for your specific town, check with your local LDS stake or neighborhood congregation for details on local meetinghouse broadcasts.

Ross Hugues, an area coordinator for the event, said local LDS leaders advocated for a larger venue so the entire community could attend.

“We recognize that we’re stronger together and if we can, this is something to offer the entire community.”

Hugues said the event is about more than music.

“Don’t we live in a time when everyone can use a little bit more hope, a little bit more love and an opportunity for community members to come together, regardless of religious affiliation or political points of view or anything like that.”

The event is part of the choir’s Songs of Hope and Love Tour. Organizers partnered with Pocatello’s School District 25 and the American Falls School District to benefit underserved women and children in both communities. Leslie Hugues said the outreach reflects the spirit of the tour.

“We just wanted to make sure that same love was extended to the community, to families in the community.”

Donation stations and a QR code will be available on-site.

The Hollywood Bowl performances take place June 24 and 25 and will feature the Tabernacle Choir, producer and conductor David Foster, singer Katharine McPhee, Broadway stars Stephanie J. Block and Sebastian Arcelus and entertainer Donny Osmond. The broadcast airs once June 26.

Pre-show entertainment will include the Lava Flow Fire Dancers from Lava Hot Springs and comedian and musician Emily Pack from Mesa, Arizona. Food trucks will be on-site starting at 5 p.m. Organizers will bring in a high-quality screen and concert-quality sound system for the broadcast.

Hugues said attendees can expect a family-friendly night.

“It’s gonna be a great Friday night event for families to come, to be somewhere where they can be with their family and without any worry of anything offensive or controversial going on.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets for the grass seating area.
