LEWISTON — No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported from a Tuesday afternoon house fire in the Lewiston Orchards, but multiple pets were killed in the blaze.

Crews responded to reports of a structure fire along the 800 block of Preston Avenue around 3 p.m. Tuesday, with first responders arriving to find smoke and fire coming from multiple sides of the house, according to a Lewiston Fire Department news release. It was unknown if there were any residents inside upon arrival.

Emergency responders were able to bring the fire under control by attacking from various locations outside, and performing vertical ventilation on the roof, according to the news release. No occupants were found in the home, but crews discovered several of the homeowners’ animals had died in the fire.

The blaze was found to have spread through the entire first floor of the house, causing an estimated $350,000 in damages and an additional $100,000 in loss of contents, according to the news release.

A total of 19 personnel responded to the incident, which remains under investigation.
