Idaho Fish and Game is asking for the public's help identifying who illegally shot and killed a bull elk in Bingham County, then left the animal to waste after removing its antlers.
A member of the public discovered the dead bull earlier this month on Sellars Creek Road, between Blackfoot Reservoir Road and Long Valley Road, according to Fish and Game.
The elk was shot multiple times from the road with a centerfire rifle sometime between Sept. 4 and Sept. 5, likely at night, Fish and Game said. Whoever killed the animal removed only its antlers and left the rest of the carcass behind.
The case involves at least two violations, according to Fish and Game: killing a big game animal with a centerfire rifle during an archery-only season and waste of game.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Fish and Game Senior Conservation Officer Mitch Newhouse at 208-576-1752 or the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999. Callers may remain anonymous and those who provide information leading to an arrest are eligible for a reward.
