The Bannock County Road & Bridge Department began its annual summer road maintenance June 8, with crews performing chip-sealing and paving treatments to extend the life of county roadways and improve driver safety and experience.

The summer season projects consist of more than 47 miles of intensive roadway treatments, including cold and hot-mix asphalt paving updates and 41 miles of chip-seal preservation.

In addition to dozens of secondary rural routes slated for service, Bannock County has announced a series of high-traffic corridors that may impact most drivers.

High-impact areas with major asphalt paving corridors include Jenkins from Hawkins to McDaniels, Wagner and 2 Mile Road on the Old Highway to Corrals and Smith Canyon from Dempsey to Mailboxes.

Major chip-seal corridors include Blazer Highway, Old Oregon Trail, S. Marsh Creek from W. Merrill to Robin, Maughn Road and E. Richards from Hawkins to Ray.

Bannock County said drivers should anticipate temporary traffic delays, reduced speeds and modified lanes throughout the summer. Following chip-seal treatment, recommended speeds on treated roads will be temporarily reduced to help prevent windshield chips.

Bannock County Road & Bridge will post active work zones and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible.

Bannock County has also advised that when traveling through active work zones, motorists should obey all posted warning signs, flashing lights, pilot cars and flagger instructions to ensure the safety of road crews and fellow commuters.

Project completion timelines are subject to weather conditions, equipment availability and unforeseen operational circumstances.
